If you are applying for more than one permit or applying for both a pistol permit and a firearms ID card, only one $54.00 money order for the State Police is necessary. This fee is for fingerprint processing by the State. One set of fingerprints covers all applications filed together. There is no fingerprinting required if you have been fingerprinted by the Berkeley Heights Police Department for a firearms permit since December 1, 1998.

Only money orders can be accepted for the State Police S.B.I. fees. Money order or personal check can be accepted for the Berkeley Heights permit fees. No cash will ever be accepted.

You cannot combine fees. Fees must be separate checks and/or money orders. If you are applying for more than one permit, one check for the total amount owed to Berkeley Heights is acceptable. Only one $54.00 money order is required for multiple permit applications.

On all application forms, no relatives or police officers may be used as references. All parts of the application must be filled in and be legible. The Mental Health form must be filled in, be legible and be signed in the presence of a police officer.

FINGERPRINTING HOURS:

Call (908)464-4911 to make an appointment.

Fingerprinting is required on all first time applicants. IT TAKES APPROXIMATELY 6-8 WEEKS FOR AN APPLICATION TO BE PROCESSED THROUGH THE STATE POLICE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS. YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WHEN YOUR PERMIT IS READY!
